I was just about to post this blog, hopeful that the bailout proposal finalized by Congress would pass the vote in the House…and this headline jumped out at me:

In a vote that literally shook the government, Wall Street, and markets around the world, the proposed emergency rescue for the nation’s financial system was defeated, leaving the Bush administration and both parties reeling as they try to pick up the pieces.

America is in real trouble! We can’t rely on the government to bail us out. We can’t sit back and just hope for the best. Smart entrepreneurs are succeeding even when the economy is in a meltdown.

Serious Entrepreneurs Don’t Quit!!

Serious Entrepreneurs NEVER quit! Of course, we have our moments when we are brain-dead from exhaustion.

But we get up and face the next day determined to make that next killer sale or rank #1 on Google.

Facing challenges head on with resolve and gusto is in the serious entrepreneur’s blood. Conquering the impossible is what we live and breathe for.

My motto for all of my adult life has been “Second Sucks!!”

Give up? Not even in my vocabulary.

Reality is, though, most entrepreneurs struggled before they hit it big.

Walt Disney? As a young man, he was fired from the Kansas City Star Newspaper because his boss thought he lacked creativity. He was forced to shut down the first company he formed, could barely pay his rent, and…even resorted to eating dog food!

J.K. Rowling? Before finding fame as the author of the Harry Potter books, she was rejected by 12 publishers. The small publishing firm which reluctantly purchased Rowling’s first Harry Potter manuscript told her that she really ought to “get a day job.”

Most top marketing entrepreneurs have their rags-to-riches stories: from waiting tables to millionaire by the age of 28… from living on the streets to owning multiple homes.

And while all those stories are inspiring to hopeful entrepreneurs, the road to riches is a bit more “down and dirty.”

Are you a “toilet paper entrepreneur”?

Entrepreneur and author Mike Michalowicz compares true entrepreneurialism to a typical bathroom experience: “business” is done and you discover only 3 sheets of TP left on the roll! Necessity breeds invention if you want to leave the rest room smelling like a rose.

Serious Entrepreneurs in the network marketing industry gain success not by sitting around hoping someone will come and “hand them a roll of toilet paper.”

They take action, dig around in the nearby garbage, check out whatever is handy within arm’s reach, use the empty cardboard roll if necessary, call it good…and move on!

Serious Entrepreneurs take whatever assets they have and make their business work. Not only do they make do with less, they make MORE with less.

Top earners in their industry don’t make excuses and don’t have patience for people who do.

They don’t, contrary to popular opinion, multitask…they focus on one task until it’s complete.

They aren’t perfectionists…they say, “Good is good enough.”

Because they know that money likes speed.

They know that by the time they’ve perfected their sales letter, website, or ad campaign, their competition will have already capitalized on their idea and left them in the dust.

They don’t spend the bulk of their time thinking, planning, and revising… they take action.

They aren’t afraid of risks…they take calculated measures to reduce risks.

Dick Costolo, founder of Feedburner.com said,

“The key is to just get on the bike, and the key to getting on the bike… is to stop thinking about ‘there are a bunch of reasons I might fall off’ and just hop on and peddle the damned thing. You can pick up a map, a tire pump, and better footwear along the way.”

Serious Entrepreneurs don’t need toilet paper. Why?

The problem is…unless you know what you’re doing, you most likely are doing it incorrectly. Pissing off people who thought they were your friends.

Online social networks are one of the blessings of Web 2.0. Plenty of people use them to stay in touch with their friends, meet new people, make work-related connections and more. Unfortunately, it seems like you can’t have something good on the Internet without someone coming along to abuse it, and that’s as true of online social networks as anything.

An Internet property is basically any kind of web page, and any Internet sites that allow people to people interaction are considered online social media. Web 2.0 is another term referring to sites that in some way allow people to actively contribute rather than just passively read from it.

It’s the weekend…time to forget about work, catch up with old friends, possibly make some new friends. So you go to a party. You’re having a great time. Then someone comes up to you, introduces himself, and immediately tries selling you on some business opportunity.

How much of a turn-off is that? That is exactly what happens when you use certain social media sites for purposes they are not intended.

And if you’re involved in affiliate marketing, beware…owners of the products you are marketing as an affiliate do not take it lightly when you promote their products on sites like MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter. And they are increasingly shutting down the accounts of affiliates who act like jerks and don’t play fair.

And pleading ignorance is just plain ignorant!

Serious Entrepreneurs always make New Year’s resolutions, right?

Check out the latest stats … 30% of all New Year’s resolutions are broken within the first week.

Not too promising, is it?

It’s been said that “an optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.”

So, being the optimist, I contemplated some resolutions I could make for 2009…learn to dance like the stars? Not in a million years. Give up smoking? I enjoy my occasional cigar too much. Golf more? Now we’re talking. Take my business to the next level? Absolutely!

SHOW ME HOW TO MAKE 2009 ROCK FOR MY BUSINESS!

After taking a 90-Day Challenge online marketing course for serious entrepreneurs early this year and saw the impact it made on my focus and mindset, I’ve decided to challenge myself. No one-week resolutions that by next year will be long forgotten. But 90 days to meet a list of goals I made for myself:

1. Leverage my time and money. After experiencing tremendous growth this year, of which I’m very grateful, there’s no better time to hire some help than now. With the economy in the worst slump in decades, people are desperate for work. There are talented people waiting to be discovered. So I’m investing my money in people instead of stuff.

2. Master social media. As you all know, the internet marketing industry is not for the faint of heart. It takes time, dedication, and perseverance. Building relationships and trust is crucial. Knowing how to use and leverage PPC is a huge part of the online game; but if visitors to your sites don’t know or care who you are, you can kiss their business goodbye.

I’ve talked about using Web 2.0 and social media many times, and Twitter is the breakout star! It’s going to be an important way to market and stay in touch with customers in the future.

Twitter is where it’s at…

I’ve registered and am going to be using it to collaborate with others, start discussions, and get input…and I’d REALLY like it if you were connected to me.

3. What’s Working – What’s Missing – What’s Next?? Constant evaluation of what is producing results and then processing that feedback is vital. If something isn’t working, I need to make note of it and move on. There is something to be said for letting yourself “fail quickly” – this concept is really the key to success. As a serious entrepreneur, I need to continually remind myself and my team of what is working, fix what’s not, and to forget about the rest!

Asking “what’s next” will help you come up with new ideas, new niches, and new opportunities to make more money online!

Don’t let fear of the recession guide your goal setting plans for 2009.

This is a BIG mistake!

Fear is an emotional response, only good for short-term survival. When you’re in “fight or flight” mode, you’re not thinking clearly about the path you’re running… You’re just RUNNING! So your efforts lack strategy, planning, and insight.

Internet shopping is predicted to hit $145.1 Billion in the coming year, a significant 14% increase — despite the recession!

Consumers will be spending more time at home, using their computers for everything from bargain hunting and product research to upgrading skills.

And studies show this shift is ALREADY well underway…!

So don’t let the Big “R” stop you from pursuing exciting personal, financial, and business goals in 2009. I want you to do more than just survive 2009. I want you to dominate!
